30 MILES.

1 NATION.

AREAS OF FOCUS

Surreal landscape with a split road and signpost arrows showing two different courses, left and right direction to choose. Road splits in distinct direction ways. Difficult decision, choice concept.

TOUGH CHOICES

Individuals must treat their own mind, body and soul with respect. Tough choices, discipline, and education are the paths to a life worth living. Our insights will increase belief in oneself and in the human spirit.

The concept of climate has changed. Half alive and half dead tree standing at the crossroads of climate change on city background. Save the environment.

DUAL REALITIES

Educational and opportunity inequality are not just or sustainable. We will deep dive these inequities, how they came to be, their current effects and their long-term effects.

MISSION ORIENTED

About
THE AUTHOR

I grew up in a wealthy suburb 30 miles outside of Detroit, MI. It was and remains a well-groomed municipality, has a well-funded public school district, and maintains a high-quality of life for its residents.

As an adult, I have been educated formally and informally in Detroit. I have attended Wayne State University (twice), worked in Detroit through a collaborative project with Detroit Public Lighting, and undertaken a vast cultural education through the Detroit Institute of Arts, Charles Wright African American Museum, and informal race relations groups and events.

Driving through and experiencing neglected and mismanaged areas of Detroit has changed my consciousness and perspective forever. How can 30 miles of separation yield such different realities? How can our basic housing, public schooling, and public works be so vastly different? 30 Mile Nation was born.
